How to Escape into the Science Fiction World Battletech, PART 2

Reading the background history

Just what is a mech? Think of it like a tank that stands on two legs. The mech has been used in many other forms, most notably anime films. To read the background history certain guides can help you. For example, there are four houses in the Battletech universe which each have their own ways of politics. Politics is actually quite important in this series.

Looking for the best writers

You may not find the best science fiction writers with Battletech, but you will find plenty of talent. One of the best of the Battletech writers—and the most famous—is Michael A. Stackpole, a novelist who has worked in other shared worlds like Star Wars.

Reading multiple times

There are dozens of published Battltech novels, perhaps over a hundred. But these books are so good you can escape into them again and again.

Choosing a Book to Buy

What books do you buy? The world of Battletech has changed in recent years. A new storyline, called “The Dark Ages,” is upon the Battletech world. Many fans feel these are weak stories, but I have enjoyed several of them. For the most part, the classics from a decade or more ago are some of the best.
